About Sam Granger

Sam studied BSc Product Design at Bournemouth University, where his interest in photography and macro led him to develop a new approach to lighting subjects at close range. His final-year project became the original Adaptalux Studio, earning him First Class Honours and providing the foundation for the company. Since founding Adaptalux in 2014, Sam has continued to design and develop the lighting systems, accessories and supporting products, combining product design with practical photography to solve real-world lighting challenges.

As founder and product designer, Sam is responsible for the development of Adaptalux products from the earliest concepts through to finished equipment. He works across product design, prototyping and development, using feedback from photographers and his own experience to refine existing products and develop new ones. His work has shaped much of the hardware that makes up the Adaptalux System, with products designed and assembled in the UK.

Sam’s long term thinking, combined with a pragmatic and practical approach to business has seen Adaptalux Grow from humble beginnings. The first year of Adaptalux had Sam assembling products one by one from his garage, with occasional helping hands from friends and family. Now, Sam continues to focus his efforts on growing the business and improving our existing products whilst innovating for the future.

Sam regularly demonstrates Adaptalux products and new features online and in person at The Photography Show. Explaining in detail how the equipment works and how it can be used in real photographic setups. These demonstrations also give him the opportunity to speak directly with photographers, answer technical questions and gather feedback that can help shape future products.
