Hello everyone!
A small knock, but we will recover.
Its amazing how one day can have such a big impact on a project like this. I came to write this update this morning with great excitement, as the final PCB samples arrived. I was going to show the final product in a video and announce when shipping would start, but I am sorry to say there is a unexpected problem, which we did not anticipate.
We are currently investigating the PCB for an issue, which is causing the battery management system to fail. As a result, this is having an effect on how the program functions and how the power from the battery is delivered to the system. We are hoping to find the problem by the end of this week and we really hope you can all understand. Myself and the team can only apologise, we are extremely frustrated as we are so close to being able to ship the product to you guys. It is quite rare for a problem to arise between a final working electronic board to PCB production, which is why we were not expecting it at all, but we have to deal with it together and accept another small delay.
Due to this problem, shipping will now not begin until June, as we now have to identify the problem, fix it, get new PCB samples made and then mass produce the rest of the PCB’s. We think we can have new samples within 2-3 weeks, once approved the rest will swiftly follow and shipping can begin.
Please keep supporting us, we know its taking a while but your support is what keeps us going through frustrating times like this 🙂
– Sam
What have we being up to?
We have been incredibly busy since our last update, assembling various Adaptalux products. Sorry for the silence once again, but rest assured everything is now coming together. With such a small team, our core priority at the moment is assembling Adaptalux.
Lighting Arm Assembly:-
All Lighting Arms have now being assembled and are ready to ship. We are exceptionally happy with the quality and durability of the design and we think you guys are going to love them too. We have plans to do a video soon (when time allows), showing off how strong the design is.
Control Pod Assembly
Control Pod assembly is now well underway. We are currently doing the sub-assemblies, which involves assembling the buttons into place and joining the two halves together.
The following jobs are remaining for the Control Pod:-
- Finish sub-assemblies above.
- We are waiting for the internal sub-assemblies to get here from our supplier in china, they said this should be within 2 weeks.
- Once these arrive, we simply have to connect up the Control Pod and finish the assembly off once we have fixed the PCB.
- All Control Pods will be fully cleaned at the end of the assembly and shipped.
Packaging
We have finally been given a date for the finished packaging to arrive here. This is by next Wednesday (17th May). We will post an update once this arrives with some final packaged product shots!
Other news with packaging, the safety & warranty leaflets and also the instruction manuals have been printed and arrived with us last week. Here is a sneak peek at the instruction manual. Thanks to everyone who provided feedback on the manual last month, it helped us make the instructions as clear as possible. The instruction manual will also be available on our website in different languages, alongside a help and FAQ section.
The App
The Adaptalux App for iOS is now pretty much finished. We are just working on adding a intuitive tutorial to it to help you around the app when you first start using it. We have now finished all work on the world library, a place where you can create lighting profiles using Adaptalux and share them with the world. Once the PCB is fixed, expect videos showing how the app and added functionality work together, to create a great product and enhance your photography and videography.
A Small Reminder…
Please bare in mind, we are an exceptionally small team for a project like this, with mostly part time people working on it, apart from Sam, who has committed all of his time on this idea and project for the last 3 years. He is a very busy guy at the moment and is trying his best to get these to you as quickly as possible. We cannot wait to get Adaptalux in to your hands, so we can see what amazing photographs and videos you can produce with it. We can’t thank this community enough for enabling this project to happen and the support you have given us over the past year both through the ups and downs.
