What we do

Adaptalux is a UK-based photography lighting company specialising in modular lighting systems for macro, close-up and creative photography.

Founded in 2014 by product designer Sam Granger, the company develops flexible LED and Xenon lighting equipment designed to give photographers precise control over the position, direction, colour and intensity of light.

Our products solve the problem of lighting for macro photographers. The Adaptalux macro Lighting System is designed to be a premium, high quality product that can be customised and expanded to suit your needs.

We also regularly publish articles exploring the world of photography, particularly macro and close-up photography, flowers, insects, abstract subjects and creative lighting techniques. Through our tutorials, experiments and demonstrations, we share practical ideas, techniques and inspiration to help photographers get more from their equipment and explore new ways of working with light.

Our Story

Adaptalux began as a product design project at Bournemouth University. Founder Sam Granger was looking for a better way to light his own macro photography and developed the first prototype of what would become the Adaptalux Studio. After graduating with First Class Honours, Sam continued developing the concept from his parents’ garage before launching a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015.

Since then, Adaptalux has grown into a UK-based design and manufacturing company producing modular LED and Xenon lighting systems for photographers around the world. The products continue to be designed by Sam and assembled in the UK, with development shaped by practical photography, technical experimentation and feedback from the Adaptalux community.
