Watch on YouTube – AMAZING macro picture ideas you can try at home
Every year we collect together our favorite shoots from the past 12 months into a collection of amazing macro picture ideas that are easy to shoot at home.
Click the links to see images, tips, and a full video tutorial on each subject.
#1 – Iris Photography
Iris photography is very popular at the moment, with eye photography studios popping up all around the world. However, it’s possible to get the same amazing photos of the eye right at home!
The tricky part is doing it without a reflection, but we have a solution for that. It’s all about the light source and method. Check out the full tutorial to learn how it’s done!
#2 – Coiled Wires
Abstract macro picture ideas are some of the most fun! Wire makes for a surprising macro subject, especially when some additional light is used to add color from within a coil.
Use telephone wires or USB wires to create otherworldly sci-fi shots that change mood depending on the colors used. It’s a simple and fun shoot that can be done on the coffee table!
#3 – Ink in Water
Ink squirted into water can create beautiful abstract clouds of colour as it collides and mixes. This is a very messy and time-consuming subject to try out, but it’s just as rewarding!
Shoot still macro photos, sure… but try video too! Slow-motion video of the ink mixing and flowing is really mesmerising, especially when put to music!
#4 – Ice Macro Photography
A simple ice cube is fascinating up close. The way water freezes is unpredictable and can result in very interesting textures and shapes to explore as it melts. It’s not without it’s challenges, but shooting Ice can be fun!
If you need more abstract macro photo ideas, try using coloured light to shine through the translucent Ice for a less recognizable subject!
#5 – Toy Cars
We have done a lot of toy photography in the past, but if you want some more “realistic” images, look no further than die-cast cars. These metal-made cars have a lot of detail and if you position and light them correctly, they can look just like the real thing!
Very little photoshop is needed to get a realistic car shot, if you set up your lighting and camera angles correctly. It’s easier than shooting real cars!
